Agenda Item #30
West Melbourne Elementary School - Design Build Services - SALES SURTAX
West Melbourne Elementary School is scheduled in year 2 (through summer 2017) of the sales surtax priority list for facility renewal projects. The complete scope of work is under the $2 million threshold for utilizing the District's continuing services contracts. On December 13, 2016, the School Board approved a preconstruction services proposal submitted by Canaveral Construction, Inc., under their continuing contract for design build services, based on the Design Criteria Package prepared by BRPH.
Canaveral Construction has submitted a Phase I Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) in the amount of $1,108,212 for the scope of work including security, educational technology and facility renewal. The facility renewal scope was reduced to meet the Attachment F budget. Phase I prioritizes the ductwork renewal, the building envelope system, electrical and the central mechanical plant. A second GMP will be developed with the remaining funds to address the higher priority air conditioning and plumbing needs.
The security and educational technology projects are over budget and will use sales surtax contingency in their respective categories ( $21,087 security and $49,923 educational technology). The pricing was submitted after the February Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, so they will be notified by email and this will be noted at their April 2017 meeting.
Administrative costs for construction support are estimated at $40,000. Costs will be allocated by category based on the attached worksheet.
Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000.
Approve the construction budget for West Melbourne Elementary School in the amount of $1,148,212 including use of security sales surtax contingency ($21,087) and educational technology sales surtax contingency ($49,923).
