04-08-2014 Regular School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #38

Title
Revision to Policy 7110 - Student Accommodation

Discussion

Policy 7110 - Student Accommodation is being revised to clarify strategies for student accommodation when student enrollment exceeds the permanent (design) capacity of a school and revise the strategies for consideration of school closure.

At the School Board meeting on December 10, 2013, the Board requested that several proposed criteria be clarified and directed staff to incorporate two of the criteria proposed by the Capital Outlay Committee.

At the School Board meeting on January 21, 2014, the Board directed staff to convene a committee to recommend weights for the proposed criteria.

A committee met on February 18, 2014 to review school closure procedures, criteria and guidelines recommended by staff.  Based on input from the committee, a School Closure Analysis Procedure, with (weighted) Criteria and Guidelines for School Closure Analysis, and a School Closure Procedure are recommended as Administrative Procedures for Policy 7110.

Changes since the February 25, 2014 School Board meeting:

  1. The changes shown in red in Group Criteria #5 in the Criteria and Guidelines for School Closure Analysis were recommended by the committee.
  2. The changes shown in red in Definitions 2.1, 2.4 and 2.5 of the School Closure Procedure were recommended by the School Board Attorney.
  3. The changes shown in red in Procedure 5.3 of the School Closure Procedure were agreed to by the School Board Attorney and School District Staff at Dispute Resolution Meeting #4 on March 19, 2014.
