Recommend the Approval of Palm Bay Academy Renewal Charter Contract


Florida State Statutes dictate that the terms and conditions for the operation of a charter school shall be set forth by the Sponsor and the charter school in a written contractual agreement, called a charter.  The purpose of the agenda item is to request the approval of the renewal charter contract for Palm Bay Academy, which expired on June 30, 2012.

Summary of Renewal Contract Negotiations with Palm Bay Academy Charter School

  • The Board approved the recommendation to renew the charter contract for Palm Bay Academy on June 12, 2012.
  • A letter granting the extension of the June 30, 2012 contract was granted to the School to complete contract negotiations.
  • Harold Bistline, School Board Attorney, was involved in the contract negotiations.
  • Pursuant to 1002.33(7)(b)(2), F.S., the term of the renewal charter contract is fifteen (15) years based on Palm Bay Academy being designated as a "high performing" charter school by the Commissioner of Education.  Such long-term charter is subject to annual review and may be terminated during the term of the charter pursuant to 1002.33(8), F.S.

Approve the renewal charter contract for Palm Bay Academy Charter School.
