Agenda Item #27
Elementary Mathematics Textbook Adoption
This is the third school year in which the current district-adopted mathematics program has been used in our classrooms. These materials are aligned with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. However, school year 2013-2014 marks the first year of a K-6 implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Because our current mathematics program materials are not aligned to the new standards our students are expected to meet, new materials are needed.
Fortunately, the state has included mathematics in its adoption timeline for this year. Due to the fact that we are midway through Florida's current adoption cycle in mathematics, publishing companies have not made major changes to the components within their programs. However, they have aligned their current programs to the CCSS.
As a cost saving measure, publishers are offering newly revised materials at discounted rates to provide teachers and students access to CCSS Mathematics resources. These materials will allow our teachers to have instructional mathematics materials aligned to the CCSS through the 2017-2018 school year.
Approve the purchase of newly revised Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley enVisionMath Common Core Standards Edition-2012 of Pearson Education, Inc. in the amount of $1,413,000.
