Agenda Item #31
Head Start Self-Assessment and Improvement Plan
The School Board of Brevard County Head Start Self-Assessment and Improvement Plan is being submitted for approval. A self-assessment must be completed annually in accordance with paragraphs 45 CFR 1304.51(i) and 1304.50(d)(1)(viii) of the Head Start Performance Standards. The purpose of the self-assessment is to determine if Head Start systems and services have been implemented and are working effectively. The results are used to highlight effective practices and determine needs for program improvement. The submitted document represents the findings of the Head Start program self-assessment completed in January, 2013.
A review team consisting of school district staff, classroom teachers, parents, and community partners completed the self-assessment after participating in training on the process. In general, the findings illustrated many program strengths. The findings also revealed opportunities for overall program improvement, many of which are related to challenges faced as a new Head Start grantee. Identified problems and possible solutions were included within the context of the reported results.
Approve the School Board of Brevard County Head Start Self-Assessment and Improvement Plan.
