Agenda Item #46
Melbourne High School Buildings 1 and 8 Sealant Replacement - General Contractor Services
During routine repairs to the interior walls of Buildings 1 and 8 at Melbourne High School for what appeared to be water intrusion, it was discovered that the sealant around several second story windows and a horizontal wall joint were leaking. Additional field survey in Buildings 1 and 8 uncovered the sealant around all second story windows, shutters and the horizontal wall joint at the transition between the brick and the stucco-type finish was cracked or missing. Sealants are a critical component of the structural building envelope and must be maintained to prevent damage and property loss. This project replaces the sealant on Buildings 1 and 8.
Quotes were solicited and received from the District's continuing services general contractors under RFP #13-P-039-KR. Canaveral Construction Company, Inc. provided the lowest responsive and responsible quote at $42,158. The total project cost including construction, reserve, administration, permitting and inspection is estimated not to exceed $48,658.
Adequate funding has been identified and budgeted in FY 2014-2015 Capital Funds for the project. Board approval is required for a purchase order over $25,000. In order to expedite the work, approval is requested as a consent agenda item without prior information.
