Agenda Item #29

Title
F-13. Field Trip for Melbourne High School Robotics Team 386 to Participate in the FIRST Robotics Championships in Atlanta, Georgia

Discussion

The Melbourne High School Robotics Team 386 (consisting of students from Melbourne High School, West Shore Jr./Sr. High School, and Satellite High School) won at the Palmetto Regional at Clemson University on the weekend of March 29.  They were invited to the FIRST Robotics Championships at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 16-20, 2008.  The team will leave Wednesday, April 16, 2008, by Travelynx Charter Bus, and return on Sunday, April 20.  There will be 30 students and 12 chaperones.  The students will miss three days of school (April 16, 17, and 18).  The expenses will be covered through funding supplied by the robotic team sponsors and fundraising.  There will be no cost to the school or District.

Due to time constraints, Dr. Richard DiPatri approved this out-of-state field trip request, and we are requesting the Board's retroactive approval at the April 22 Board Meeting.

Recommendation
Approve the field trip request by the Melbourne High School FIRST Robotics Team #386 to attend the FIRST Robotics Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 16-20, 2008.  There will be no cost to the District.
