F-10. Contract with The 95 Percent Group for Professional Development

Discussion

Dr. Susan Hall, Founder and President of 95 Percent, and Dr. Diane Merkel, 95 Percent lead consultant will conduct a one day training workshop on Friday, May 16, 2008.  This  follow up training will provide principals guidance as they conduct Reading/Intervention Walk-throughs.  Consultants will conduct on site walk-throughs with principals. Administrators will compare notes with consultants through interactive dialogue.  Principals will also receive follow up training on the importance of the Phonological Awareness and Phonics Continuums as we prepare our students to be successful readers. 

 

 

This consultant agreement directly impacts the following district Strategic Plan goals:

·         2.1.1 - Implement a K-12 comprehensive improvement program for every student scoring below grade level and decrease the achievement gap between minority and majority students on FCAT reading and math,

·         2.1.3 - Improve the third grade FCAT scale scores to rank in the top five districts in the state.

·         2.1.5 - Obtain adequate yearly progress based on NCLB standards at the school and district level.

The hourly rate for this contract is $177. This includes one day of professional services by two consultants, one hour of preparation for each hour of presentation (our district standard), all materials for participants (handouts for the presentation, materials for classroom use and follow-up study), access to the company's web site for updates and follow-up,  e-mail support for the participants, and all travel expenses for the consultants (flights, rental car, hotel, meals).

 

Additional professional services may become available at the same rate provided in the consultant agreement throughout this fiscal year.



Recommendation

Authorize the Superintendent to enter into an agreement with Dr. Susan L. Hall, the Founder and President of 95 Percent Group, to work with the principals of Cambridge, Endeavour, MILA, Riverview, Riviera, River’s Edge Charter, Turner, and Mims at the cost of $5,170.
