F-15. Viera High and Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School DECA Trip to Atlanta, GA, April 25-30, 2008
Information was presented to the board on March 25, 2008 regarding Viera High School's request to send
one male student and one chaperone to the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta,
Georgia scheduled to be held on April 26-29, 2008. Since the last board meeting, plans have changed and the
Viera High School student will travel and lodge with his parent. The Viera High School student will be responsible
for all of his expenses and will miss four student days.
In addition, the Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High DECA club has advanced to the International Competition level.
Two of their students placed 1st at the state conference in the Sports & Entertainment Team Decision-Making
event. Mr. Wayne Moore is the advisor. These two students (one male and one female) and two chaperones
from Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School will also be attending the conference. The two students and two
chaperones (Mr. and Mrs. Moore) will travel to Atlanta via air on April 25 and return on April 30, 2008. The
cost for registration is $80.00/per person, the airline fare is $220.00 per person. Lodging for the 5-day stay will
be at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The total cost per person is $916.67. The Cocoa Beach students are fundraising
and will receive CTE funds and funds from Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High to help off-set the cost. The out-of-pocket
expenses for the students will be very minimal. The students will miss four school days.
Approve one Viera High School student and his parent/chaperone and two students and two chaperones from
Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School to attend the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta,
GA, on April 25-30, 2008.
