Student Accommodation Plan Portable Relocation - Design Build Services

Discussion

The School Board reviewed the FY 2016-2017 Student Accommodation Plan (SAP) on April 12, 2016 (information) and will consider the SAP for approval on the consent agenda on April 26, 2016. The SAP includes the relocation of four (4) portable classrooms as follows: Space Coast to Challenger (1); Space Coast to Pinewood (2) and Bayside to Surfside (1).

Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the work under their continuing contract for design build services, based on a Design Criteria Package (DCP) prepared in house, with structural engineering details prepared by Droor & Associates under their structural engineering continuing contract. The GMP is not to exceed $278,188.43. This includes a $40,000 allowance for relocation as necessary of an existing Pre-K playground. The requested project budget, not to exceed $288,188.43, includes an additional $10,000 for permitting and administration.

Funding for portable relocations resulting form the Student Accommodation Plan was budgeted in the FY2015-16 Capital Budget, but this budget was significantly depleted due to the portable relocation project for the Endeavor Community School. The available funding in the Portable Relocation budget is $85,500.  The balance of $202,688.43 will be funded from currently unallocated funds in the FY2015-16 Capital Budget. 

Note that $100,000 for portable relocation expenses will be received on July 1, 2016 from Brevard County as a result of a new lease and joint use agreement recently approved by the Brevard County Commission for the Mims/Scottsmoor Library at the Pinewood Elementary campus.  This lease and joint use agreement was submitted for information on the April 12, 2016 Board agenda.

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. This item is submitted as information concurrently with the Student Accommodation Plan which identifies the four (4) portables to be relocated.



Recommendation

Approve the project budget for portable relocation in an amount not to exceed $288,188.43.

Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Canaveral Construction, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $278,188.43 under their continuing contract for design build services.
