Sunrise Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team Participation at World Finals at the University of Maryland

Discussion

The Sunrise Elementary Odyssey of the Mind Team is requesting Board approval to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind 2008 World Finals at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, on May 31 through June 3, 2008.

On April 5, 2008, the Sunrise Odyssey of the Mind Team placed 2nd overall in their problem and division at the State Tournament at UCF in Orlando.  Second place advances the team to the World Finals.

Seven students and five coaches/chaperones will participate in the trip.  Team members will travel with their parents.  Five students and their families will be flying and two students and their families are driving.  The coaches/chaperones will be flying.

Meals and lodging will be approximately $4,500, and fees and supplies will cost approximately $900.  Round-trip airline transportation will be approximately $170 per student/chaperone, plus additional ground transportation from the airport to the University of Maryland of $40 per person.  There will be no cost to the District or the school.  All costs will be paid through fundraising.  Two days of school will be missed by the students (June 2 and 3).

The team members are Autumnbrooke Cenkner, Katheryn Ford, Colleen Peterson, Bailey Sims, Cameron Stewart, Chris Warriner, and Nathan Wolstenholme.  The coaches/chaperones are Becky Turner, Becky Suomi, Amber Thibedeau, Cari Sims, and Sara Sakowski.



Recommendation
Approve Sunrise Elementary Odyssey of the Mind Team to travel to the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind 2008 World Finals on May 31 through June 3, 2008.
