21st Century Community Learning Center Grant 2008-2009 (NASA)
Brevard Public Schools office of Adult and Community Education will partner with Delaware North Parks and Services, Inc, (Kennedy Space Center Visitor's Complex) and YMCA of Titusville, to provide quality after-school services for students and support for parents of children who attend three elementary schools: Coquina Elementary, Riverview Elementary and South Lake Elementary.
Using funds from this project, Coquina, Riverview, and South Lake Elementary Schools will become 21st Century Community Learning Centers. The "Space Explorers" program is designed to use classrooms at Kennedy Space Center for science and math lessons (STEM) with bus transportation costs and tuition scholarships for eligible students provided by the grant funds. The YMCA, addressing childhood obesity, will bring a health, nutrition and exercise program into the schools as part of the grant.
Copies of the application for renewal of funds will be located in the Adult and Community Education Director's office and the Adult Education grant office at North Area Adult Education Center.
Approve the application for a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant for Adult and Community Education in the amount of $419,606.00
