Agenda Item #46
Florida First Start Amendment
The Florida First Start contract was approved by the Board on June 12, 2007, Item E-12 in the amount of $150,000. The amendment will add $20,000 to the original $150,000 for a total budget of $170,000.
The agreement allows Brevard Public Schools to be the provider of the Florida First Start Program which is a high quality home based instructional program for children, birth through four years of age and their families. The services are offered at targeted Title I schools with a special emphasis on working with families of Limited English Proficiency, and to teen age parents enrolled in the district's Teen Age Parent Program. The program provides parent education, home visits, guided parent/child interactions, health and developmental screenings and referrals to community services. The Florida First Start budget is used to enhance services for those families who need additional services.
Funds will be used to provide salaries and fringe benefits, travel, furniture, equipment, materials, AV materials, computer software and to pay for transportation and admission for field trips for students and their families. Copies of the proposed services are located in the Office of Early Childhood Education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction.
The district was informed about the additional funds on May 6, 2008 prompting an amendment to the original contract.
Approve the budget amendment to the School Board of Brevard County's contract with the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard to provide the Florida First Start Program. This budget amendment is an increase of $20,000.
