5. Board Policy 2520 Selection of Instructional Materials; Objection and Request for Reconsideration

Board members made the following edits to this policy:
D(1)(b): Change "Next Generation Sunshine Standards" to applicable state standards
J(5)(b)(5): Change "at least one (1) student for challenges to high school materials, a student who is accomplished in the specific subject area is required" to may include one (1) high school student-with parent/legal guardian permission, for challenges to high school materials, (a student who is accomplished in the specific subject area is required).
J(5)(e): Add a #5 to read: the record of the School Material Review Committee's meeting shall consist of minutes containing start time, end time, location, names and titles of committee members and names of attendees. The minutes shall be maintained in accordance with Florida law.
J(5)(f)(1): Underline "and effects only the participating school" in the last sentence
J(5)(g): Add "and the Board" after the "Assistant Superintendent of Leading and Learning,"
J(6)(d)(3,4,5,6): Remove "at least"
J(6)(f): Add #3 to read "The record of the District Material Review Committee's meeting shall consist of minutes containing start time, end time, location, names and titles of committee members and name of attendees. The minutes shall be maintained in accordance with Florida law."
6. Board Policy 8406 Report of Suspicious Activity and Potential Threats to Schools

Robin Novelli, Chief Operating Officer, is the cabinet member responsible for bringing this policy forward. He provided the executive summary to the Board members.
Ms. Descovich commented that it would be helpful in the future when recommending new policies, to provide the Board with a redline draft of what is different in the proposed policy than that of NEOLA.
In #4, Board members requested "and vehicle" added after "facilities and before "owned and operated by the district."
7. Board Policy 8407 Safe School Officers

Mr. Novelli provided the executive summary to the Board for this policy as well. Ms. Descovich wanted to clarify that while this is a new policy, the district is not taking any new action. This is what has BPS has already been doing; it is just being added to an actual written policy as directed by legislation.
