05-22-18 Board Workshop (CTE & Curriculum)


The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met for a Board Workshop Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, May 10, 2018. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Minutes: Chairman Craig led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Order of Business
4. Superintendent Search Presentation

Minutes: 

Chairman Craig had invited Andrea Messina, executive director of Florida School Boards Association to highlight superintendent search planning issues. Ms. Messina  introduced consultant John Reichert.

Discussion and questions from Board members, Ms. Messina and Mr. Reichert ensued. ensued.  to Messina. A timeline was discussed.  Board member agreed that an advertisement needed to be placed; but also agreed to send out utilizing Florida sources.

The Board came to consensus about utilizing an outside superintendent firm and Chairman Craig asked Ms. Messina to provide him with a quote for services.

Minutes: 

Dr. Stephanie Soliven, assistant superintendent of Secondary Leading and Learning and Janice Scholz, director of Career and Technical Education presented the information on the PowerPoint presentation to the Board and responded to questions.

Minutes: Jane Cline, assistant superintendent of Elementary Leading and Learning began her presentation surrounding the lowest performing elementary schools. She provided the board data and what the district is doing to assist.
