Agenda Item #31
Assistive Technology Training for Private Schools by Judith Sweeney, Onion Mountain Technology, Inc.
On June 11 and 12, 2012 Judith P. Sweeney will present "Technology and Literacy K-6" and "Assistive Technology Continuum" training for 100 Private School Teachers and Public School Speech-Language Pathologists who serve students with disabilities.
"Technology and Literary K-6" training will feature a full variety of technology tools, from the very simple to the highest technology, which will enable ESE students to be more successful and organized readers and writers. "Assistive Technology Continuum" training will expose teachers who work with ESE students to a full range of low, mid, and high tech tools (including the use of color, hand held devices, computers and assistive software) designed to enable students to function more independently and successfully. These strategies and tools will enable ESE students in both public and parentally placed private schools to improve their reading and writing abilities to be successful in a regular education classroom. The strategies will also support accommodations and modifications to be provided to ESE students.
The $18,587.48 cost for the training includes $3,000 for the consultant, $647.00 for travel, plus $14,940.50 for 1 LoTTIE kit per school (25). Funding for this training will be provided by ESE Program Support IDEA Proportionate Share.
