27. Job Description: Specialist-School Safety and Security
Attachment: SPECIALIST - SCHOOL SAFETY SECURITYrev1c3.pdf
Attachment: SPECIALIST - SCHOOL SAFETY SECURITY (003).pdf
Minutes:

Mr. Susin pulled this item.  He asked why the pay for a Specialist- School Safety and Security would not be the same as a beginning teacher if there was not an SRO at the school site.

Ms. Belford reminded Mr. Susin that the Board had set aside funding for an SRO at every school so that when SROs become available we can get them in the schools needing them.

Mr. Susin remarked that they may have to raise the salary in order to attract better candidates.

Ms. Descovich commented that she believes we should begin with the salary presented and if the District is unable to fill those jobs, then the Board would have to evaluate at that time.

It was clarified that the District will fill the top level specialist positions first. However, if there are not enough qualified applicants, then the slots will be filled with Level II and finally Level I.

Mr. Ziegler said there were a couple of things within the job description that questioned. Ms. Belford believed that the pieces he had brought up were not requirements of the job.

Mr. Ziegler said that the City of Palm Bay had a meeting in which they discussed funding metal detectors in the Palm Bay schools.  He said that the Board needed to have conversation with them on how it could work.

Minutes:

Mr. Ziegler said he has been asked in the event of an active shooter situation, what can be done to minimize the time to stop it.  He was impressed by an application that is designed to be able to signal  the first sign of a problem to notify everyone at once that there is an issue via cell phones. He said the estimate is $150,000 annually for Brevard County.

Mr. Craig said that Major Walter is aware of the product and either had or is going to go to Seminole to view the product.

Mr. Ziegler also mentioned that he wants to make sure the schools with poor cellular service and the inability to utilize the 800 megahertz radios properly were being analyzed.

Referencing the application that Mr. Ziegler had suggested; Mrs. Belford wanted to know the legalities of the employees who do not have cell phones. Would that be something the District will be required to provide?
