Agenda Item #24
DeLaura Middle School - Construction Management Services
The current traffic and pedestrian circulation system at DeLaura Middle School presents several safety and operational challenges. Students exiting the school at dismissal walk across the primary driving lane to access vehicles waiting on the paved area with striping for drivers' education.
The proposed solution was developed in collaboration with the Principal, the School Resource Officer, the Project Management staff and Morgan & Associates under their continuing contract for civil engineering services. The scope of work includes reconfiguring the traffic circulation system to substantially reduce opportunities for pedestrian and vehicular conflicts. As a secondary benefit, the plan also creates a well-defined parking area that may be used for events at the school.
Canaveral Construction, Inc. submitted a proposal for the work under their continuing contract for construction management services in an amount not to exceed $83,899. Canaveral Construction will already be on site this summer completing the mechanical system renovation, which reduces the District's costs for managing the civil construction. Administration and permitting expenses are estimated at $5,000. The project will be funded through capital.
Board approval is required for a purchase order over $50,000.
Approve the total project budget for DeLaura Middle School traffic circulation project in an amount not to exceed $88,899.
Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) submitted by Canaveral Construction, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $83,899.
