Melbourne High School Crew Team Trip to Saratoga Springs, New York

The Melbourne High School Crew Team is requesting School Board approval to participate in the 76th Annual Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Championship Regatta on May 26-30, 2010, in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The team qualified four total crews from the recent State Championships and two of the Melbourne High crews (the Boys Varsity 8 and Girls Junior 4) have asked for the opportunity to race against the best scholastic teams the nation has to offer.

The trip would be taken by 14 rowers, one coach, and three chaperones.  The group will fly from Orlando to Albany, New York, and rent four automobiles for transportation to Saratoga Springs.  The team will stay three nights at the Best Western Albany Airport Inn and one night at the Microtel Inn in Middletown, New York.  No school will be missed by the students.

The cost is approximately $435 per participant for the airline, car rentals, hotel, and breakfast.  The participants will also be responsible for funds for their meals and personal expenses.  A garage sale and possible car washes will allow crew members to raise funds for this trip.  Team funds will pay for the boat transportation and entry fees.  There will be no cost to the District.

Approve the trip request by the Melbourne High School Crew Team to travel to Saratoga Springs, New York, on May 26-30, 2010, to participate in the 76th Annual Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Championship Regatta.
