Agenda Item #52
Brevard County Athletic Coaching Endorsement Program
In support of Brevard Public Schools, the Office of Certification and Professional Development offers to community athletic coaches and teachers a three-course program approved by the Florida Dept. of Education to enable successful completers to add Athletic Coaching to their certificates or to obtain a Florida certificate in Athletic Coaching. The current approval period is July 2005- June 2010.
Dr. Pat Shelton and her staff manage the program and offer all three required face to face courses to our employees annually at no charge. Athletic Coaching Theory, Sports Medicine (including submission of a valid CPR card and First Aid training), and Sports Specific Training are the three 60-credit inservice courses offered each year. Upon successful completion of the courses, participants can apply for a five-year renewable certificate in Athletic Coaching. During the program period 2005-2010, 445 course registrations were completed.
We want to continue offering this professional development program to teachers and community coaches. Having reviewed current state requirements for submission, we are requesting renewal of the program for the period July 2010 - June 2015. The program, including Master Inservice Plan components, is attached.
Review the Brevard County Athletic Coaching Endorsement Program and approve submission to the Florida Dept. of Education for their review and approval.
