Agenda Item #66
Southwest Middle School Trip to the 2010 National Technology Student Association Conference in Baltimore, Maryland
The Southwest Middle School Technology Student Association was named State Champions at the 2009-2010 State Conference in Orlando, Florida. The team qualified to attend the National TSA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 28 - July 2, 2010.
Southwest Middle School is requesting that 18 Brevard Public School students (15 students from Southwest Middle School, two students from Palm Bay High School, and one student from Eau Gallie High School), along with four chaperones, be permitted to attend this national conference. Part of the group plans to fly to Baltimore from Orlando, and the other part of the group plans to drive with their parents to Baltimore. The entire group voted on arriving at the conference location two days early on June 26, 2010 so that they may tour Washington, D.C.
The cost of the trip will be $800 per person. This amount includes transportation, conference registration, hotel and food. The students will be responsible for the cost of their trip. Any funds received from community/private donations going through the Brevard Schools Foundation will be equally divided and distributed back to the students. Funds from fundraising activities are available if any student has a hardship in covering the cost of the trip. If no one requests financial assistance, the funds will be used to pay for transportation and sightseeing opportunities on June 26-27, 2010. It is anticipated that the sponsors' expenses will be covered by CTE funds.
Approve the trip request by Southwest Middle School for students to attend the 2010 National Technology Student Association Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 26 - July 2, 2010.
