Field Trip - Satellite High School SECME Mousetrap Car Winners' Competion in South Carolina
A team of three Satellite High School students qualified to compete at the annual Mousetrap Car Construction & Operation competition to be held on June 25-30, 2010, at Clemson University in South Carolina. The students qualified by winning the district competition held at Kennedy Middle School on April 9, 2010. A Mousetrap Car is a model car that is 4-1/2 x 10 centimeters, weighing approximately 25 grams with several other required design elements. The Engineering Design Competition requires participation by each team in construction, design, technical reporting and team interview with the judges.
The three-member team (3 boys) will be accompanied by two Brevard County teachers, Mr. Joe Midgett, Kennedy Middle School teacher, and Olga Peraza, Satellite High School teacher and SECME sponsor for Satellite High School. The trip will cost approximately $700. The three participating students will be participating in fundraisers to earn the money ($234 each) to pay for the trip. There will be no cost to the Brevard County School District. The students will stay in dorms at Clemson University in South Carolina at no cost.
