Agenda Item #58
2008-09 School Resource Officer Agreements
Annually the district contracts with nine law enforcement agencies to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) in all secondary schools and a significant number of elementary schools. This year due to budget reductions the SROs will be serving in high schools and middle schools but not in the elementary schools.
The District will continue to utilize the unilateral reimbursement formula negotiated and agreed upon by consensus in April 2008 with the law enforcement agencies during the 2007-08 contract negotiations for the middle and high school SROs. The District will pay a unilateral reimbursement amount of $28,500 for each SRO during the 2008-09 190 day contractual period.
Approve the School Resource Officer contracts that provide for a unilateral reimbursement cost of $28,500 per SRO for the 2008-09 school year with the following law enforcement agencies: Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Titusville, and West Melbourne Police Departments. A total of 28 SROs will serve 14 high schools and 13 middle schools.
