Satellite High School SECME Mousetrap Car Winners' Competition, Tuskegee, AL, June 25-30, 2008
A team of three Satellite High School students qualified to compete at the annual Mousetrap Car Construction & Operation Competition to be held on June 25-30, 2008 at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. The students qualified by winning the district competition held at BCC Cocoa Campus in April, 2008. A Mousetrap Car is a model car that is 4.5 x 10 centimeters, weighing approximately 25 grams with several other required design elements. The Engineering Design Competition requires participation by each team in construction, design, technical reporting and team interview with the judges.
The three-member team (3 boys) will be accompanied by two Brevard County teachers, Mr. Joe Midgett, Kennedy Middle School teacher, and Olga Peraza, Satellite High School teacher and SECME sponsor for Satellite High School. There will be no cost to the Brevard County School District; funds are to be provided by student fundraising at an approximate cost of $512.00 total ($312 for a car rental and $200 for gasoline).
The students will stay in dorms at Tuskegee University, 8 Lane Road, Tuskegee, Alabama (404) 894-3314, at no cost. Since the event occurs during the summer, no school days will be missed.
