Palm Bay High School Trip to Washington, D.C. to Observe the 2009 Presidential Inauguration
Palm Bay High School would like to provide students an opportunity to observe the 2009 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. The trip would take place from January 18, 2009, to January 21, 2009. Plans are built on 7-15 participants; however, the actual number would be adjusted with demand. Janet Vititoe and Jim Morrison, teachers at Palm Bay High School, would be the chaperones. The trip is organized by Smithsonian Student Travel.
The group would depart by air from Orlando on Sunday, January 18, 2009, and return on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. The total cost per student would be $1,188 which includes airline fare, hotel accommodations, meals, tour guides, sightseeing tours, and cancellation insurance. Chaperones are covered in this cost. The group will travel by airport shuttle to Orlando, fly to Washington, D.C., and ride tour buses (provided by Smithsonian) throughout the stay in Washington, D.C. The students would be responsible for the cost of the trip. Fundraising events (such as car washes and snack sales) will be planned to assist the students with the cost of the trip. Students will bring their own souvenir money.
Two days of school (January 20 and 21, 2009) will be missed by the students. Monday, January 19, is a student holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.
There will be no cost to the District.
