Agenda Item #34

Title
Enhanced Instructional Opportunities for Recently Arrived Immigrant Children and Youth Grant (Immigrant Children/Youth Grant)

Discussion
The purpose of the Immigrant Children and Youth Grant is to assist eligible districts that experience significant increases in immigrant children and youth. Through the grant, districts are to provide high quality supplemental support to such youth, help with their transition into American society, and assist them into meeting the same challenging academic content and achievement standards as all children are expected to meet. Supplementary support will be provided through instructional materials, online support programs, tutoring, and cultural activities for immigrant students and their families.

Recommendation
Approve the submission of the 2015/2016 district grant application for the Immigrant Children and Youth Grant.
