Title I Part A Grant Application

The district application for Title I Part A funds is being prepared for online submission to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) by June 30, 2015. A complete copy will be available as soon as possible after the state releases the final application. As of the writing of this board agenda items, final district allocations for Title I have not yet been released. The preliminary allocation is $16,736,260. The cut-off for Title I eligibility for FY2016 will be 73% poverty for secondary schools and 60% poverty for elementary schools. This will keep all current schools on the Title I program with the exception of the South Area Alternative Learning Center where the poverty level (64%) has dropped below the threshold for secondary schools. Cocoa High School will become a Title I school for FY2016. The focus of the program will continue to be on academic support for struggling students, prekindergarten units in select Title I public schools, professional development for teachers, and parent involvement activities. Teacher salaries and benefits will continue to constitute the bulk of the budget. Additional budgeted items include instructional support materials and software, professional development and parent involvement costs, a limited amount for replacement of computers and other equipment and the operating expenses of the district Title I office. Approval of this item will authorize the Superintendent to approve purchase orders of $25,000 or more funded by this grant.
