Agenda Item #53
The Unemployment Compensation Claim Handling Contract with Degroot Management Services, Inc.
The district has utilized the services of DeGroot Management Services, Inc. to assist with our unemployment compensation claims received from the State of Florida. Their services include reporting the claim to Risk Management and responding for Risk Management after the department obtains needed details regarding job separation and employment status, the handling of claim appeals when a former employee files such an appeal or when the district requests an appeal to be filed on claims that were unjustifiably awarded. The district receives between 350 to 500 unemployment claims per year and roughly 10 to 15 percent of these claims on average are appealed in one form or another. The district has compensated DeGroot the sum of $10,150 annually since 2004 for this assistance. This year the fee has increased by 8.4% for a total fee of $11,000 per year. This fee is usually reduced by 5% as long as the payment is made within the first 30 days of the fiscal year.
Approve the three-year unemployment compensation claims handling contract with DeGroot Management Services, Inc. at a cost of $11,000 per year for each year of the contract.
