30. Finalist Selection for Superintendent

Minutes:

Chairman Craig called for individual Board comments and went in roll call order.

After each Member had provided remarks on the noted positives on each superintendent candidate, Chairman Craig asked for Board Members to list the top three candidates each would like to see as a finalist, in no ranking order.

Chairman Craig asked for Board Members to list the top three candidates each would like to see as a finalist. As finalist recommendations were audibly announced, FSBA consultants and the Board secretary tallied on a provided sheet.

  • Dr. George "Pete: Bohatch received two recommendations: Belford and Ziegler
  • Dr. Frank Rodriguez received three nominations: Craig, Belford and Ziegler
  • Mr. Gary Shiffrin received one nomination: Susin
  • Dr. Mark Mullins received five nominations: Belford, Craig, Descovich, Susin and Ziegler
  • Dr. Donna Hargens received one nomination: Susin

Each candidate that received recommendation from one or Board Member were brought up for discussion.

Ms. Descovich commented that she did not need to proceed further with interviews as she believed Dr. Mullins, BPS Chief Operating Officer, was the person who best fit what she was looking for to lead the District.  She made a motion to to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Mullins for the position of superintendent.

The motion passed three to two with Ms. Belford and Mr. Susin casting no votes.  Ms. Belford commented that her no vote was not disapproval of Dr. Mullins as the superintendent; she was merely respecting the process. Mr. Susin echoed those sentiments.

Another motion was made to by Mr. Ziegler to select Dr. Mullins as the new superintendent, seconded by Ms. Descovich and passed by a unanimous vote.
