Field Trip - Viera High School Football Game vs Gonzaga College High School in Washington DC

Discussion

The Viera High Football Team (approximately 44 students) received an invitation to play an out of state football game against Gonzaga College High School in Washington DC on September 1, 2017. Eight BPS employee/coaches and three chaperones (one BPS employee and two A+ volunteers) will be accompanying the team. In addition to participation in the game, students will be visiting various museums and monuments in Washington DC.

The VHS Varsity Cheerleading Squad (approximately 24 students) one BPS employee/coach, and five A+ volunteers also request permission to make the trip.

Students will fly out on Thursday, August 31st and return on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Students will miss two (2) school days. Itineraries are provided. Time is set aside for homework.

THERE WILL BE NO EXPENSE TO THE DISTRICT. Funds to cover football and cheerleading trip expenses have been raised by approved fund raisers. The Hawk Quarterback Booster Club will be handling all football team expenses and $5,000 was contributed by Gonzaga College High School for team travel.



Recommendation
Approve the request for Viera High Football and Cheerleading programs to travel August 31 - September 2, 2017 to Washington DC to participate in an athletic contest and in other educational sightseeing opportunities.
