Agenda Item #22
Florida First Start Contract for FY12
The Florida First Start Program is a center/home-based instructional program that provides on-site development, early literacy training and home visits to families whose children are at risk of future school failure.
This agreement allows Brevard Public Schools to be the provider of the Florida First Start Program, which is a high quality program for children, birth through four years of age, and their families. The services are offered at targeted Title I schools with a special emphasis on working with families of Limited English Proficiency, and to teenage parents enrolled in the district's Student Parent Program. The program provides parent education, home visits, guided parent/child interactions, health and developmental screenings and referrals to community services. The Florida First Start budget is used to enhance services for those families who need additional assistance. Funding will be used to provide salaries, fringe benefits, travel, furniture, equipment, materials, AV supplies, technology support and professional development.
A copy of the proposed services is located in the Office of Early Childhood Education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction.
Approve the School Board of Brevard County's agreement with the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard County, Inc. to provide the Florida First Start Program for FY12 and receive funding in the amount of $258,773.
