Field Trip - Viera High School Band & Orchestra to the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, LA


The Viera High School Marching Hawks band, approximately 200 students and 20 chaperones has been invited to perform as part of the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, LA. The adult chaperones will be properly fingerprinted with the district including faculty sponsors, Dominick Eggen and Maria Dix, as well as marching band staff (consultants). The marching band will travel by charter bus December 30th through January 3rd to New Orleans, LA. The bowl game will be held at the New Orleans Superdome and the band will be staying at a hotel provided by Worldstrides, the company contracted to handle band trips to the event.   

The cost of a three-night stay at quad-occupancy is $655.00. Transportation costs are additional and quotes are being sought by Board-approved charter bus companies. Food and excursions in the city will also be added in, with a goal of not exceeding $900 per person.  Funds will be collected and distributed from the Viera High School Band internal account.

Students will be transported in New Orleans at all times via charter bus. No school will be missed as the event will take place over the winter break.  THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.

Approve the request for Viera High School Marching Hawks, comprising of approximately 200 students and 20 chaperones to travel to New Orleans, LA to perform as a part of the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl December 30, 2016 through January 3, 2017.
