Agenda Item #31
Andersen Elementary School - Construction Management Services Change Order #1 for Traffic Management
The student pick up and drop off at Andersen Elementary School is a longstanding traffic congestion and safety issue. Parents stop on Fiske Boulevard while waiting to enter the queue. There are also numerous pedestrians and bicyclists adding to the congestion and safety concerns. The City of Rockledge staffs the area with at least one police officer and four crossing guards twice daily.
The Project Management team coordinated with the City of Rockledge and the school principal to develop a plan to address the problem. CPH, under their continuing services contract for civil engineering services, developed a design to provide additional stacking on site rather than on Fiske Boulevard.
The School Board approved a construction management services contract on February 9, 2016 with Heard Construction under their continuing contract for the remaining mechanical, electrical and plumbing renewal funded by the sales surtax. The proposed traffic management project can be constructed this summer through a change order to this contract. The source of funds for the traffic management project is the fuel tax rebate.
The proposed change order is in the amount not to exceed $286,075.02. Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. In order to construct the project this summer, approval is requested as a consent item without prior information.
Approve Change Order #1 to Heard Construction, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $286,075.02 for the traffic management project at Andersen Elementary School and increase their contract amount to $1,072,035.38.
