Atlantis Elementary School - Educational Technology, Facility Renewal - Construction Management Services SALES SURTAX

Discussion

The Atlantis Elementary School educational technology sales surtax project (excluding equipment renewal) includes structured cabling and classroom technology infrastructure. In October, 2015, the District engaged Heard Construction, Inc. under their design build continuing contract for preconstruction and design services. The design also included the fire alarm and intercom system renewal under the facility renewal sales surtax project because the work type is similar and can be effectively accomplished by the same contractors/subcontractors.

Heard Construction, Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the work in the amount of $1,013,013.69. Estimated project administration and permitting expenses are $15,000. Funds spent and encumbered to date in preconstruction and design services are estimated at $65,000 for a total project budget of $1,093,013.69.

Funding is allocated in the sales surtax funded detail report (Attachment F) for Atlantis Elementary in both the educational technology and facility renewal groups. The educational technology project requires extensive electrical upgrades that are not fully supported by the classroom technology infrastructure category, nor can they be completely absorbed by the facility renewal electrical categories.The Educational Technology team has reviewed the project scope and confirmed that all aspects of the project are critical needs at Atlantis Elementary School. Consequently, the cost allocation estimates a need for $273,765.36 in educational technology contingency.

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. Approval is requested as a consent agenda item in order to expedite the work.

 



Recommendation

Approve the total project budget for Atlantis Elementary School educational technology and facility renewal in an amount not to exceed $1,093,013.69 including funds previously spent and encumbered for administration and design/preconstruction services.

Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Heard Construction, Inc. for the Atlantis Elementary School educational technology and facility renewal project in an amount not to exceed $1,013,013.69.

Approve the use of sales surtax educational technology contingency in the amount not to exceed $273,765.36 for the project.
