Removal of Obsolete/Inactive Equipment

Discussion

Accounting Services staff has worked with all schools and department worksites to establish a list of obsolete/inactive equipment. These assets have been removed from the work sites primarily through renovation and equipment upgrade initiatives.

The attached list represents all district assets requested for removal. The list delineates the asset description, the useful life of the asset and the actual age of the asset. All assets have been fully depreciated and carry a  book value of $0.  Based on acquisition cost, the age categories are as follows:

1. 16 - 46 years = 21%

2. 11 - 15 years = 28%

3. 6 - 10 years = 44%

4. 5 years and under = 7%

On June 4, 2009, the attached list was reviewed with the Audit Committee, who recommended that staff request the Board to authorize the removal of the assets from District records.



Recommendation
Authorize the removal of the assets on the attached list per prescribed procedures and per the recommendation of the District's internal auditors, RSM McGladrey, and the Audit Committee.
