Satellite High School Student to Participate in SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, MO, June 22-28, 2008

Discussion

Student, David Orison, won first place at the SkillsUSA Motorcycle Technology competition in Bradenton, Florida which took place on April 28-May 1, 2008.  This first place win qualified the student to attend and compete at the national level in Motorcycle Technology in Kansas City, Missouri on June 22 - June 28, 2008.  More than 13,750 people, to include students, teachers and business partners participate in this event.

There will be one male student (David Orison) and two male teacher/chaperones attending the competition. The chaperones are Mr. Pitts, teacher, and Mr. Brian Orrison, parent. The dates of the conference are June 22 through June 27, 2008. They will return home on June 28, 2008.  Lodging will be at the Crowne Plaza, 1301 Wyandette St., Kansas City, Missouri. SkillsUSA arranges travel through Traveltymeinc.com. The cost of the trip is approximately $1200, which includes hotel, airfare, airport transfers, hotel accommodations, all taxes and gratuities and a flight bag. The student is responsible for paying his own way, or may use club fundraising funds.

Mr. Pitts' travel will be paid for by the Office of CTE, using Carl Perkins federal funding.



Recommendation

Approve one Satellite High School Automotive Instructor, Randy Pitts, and one Career & Technical Education (CTE) student to attend the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri on June 22-28, 2008.
