2008-2009 Even Start Continuation Application

Discussion

The Even Start Program integrates early childhood education, adult literacy, parenting education, interactive parent and child literacy activities into a single, unified family literacy program.  Even Start is implemented in collaboration with community programs and in cooperation with the district Teenage Parent (TAP) Programs.

Funds are requested for salaries, fringe benefits, professional development, travel, transportation, field trips, furniture, equipment, maintenance and repair of equipment, printing, materials, supplies AV materials, software, independent evaluator services and consultant services, for a total of $316,918.  Attached is an executive summary of Brevard County's Even Start Grant Program.

Due to time constraints, this item is being submitted for consent without prior information.  The request for application (RFA) was released on 5/30/08 with a due date of 6/15/08. The application, with appropriate signatures, will be submitted by 6/15/08. 

A copy of this grant is available in the Office of Title I in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction.



Recommendation
Approve the 2008-2009 grant application for the Even Start Family Literacy Program in the amount of $316,918.
