06-17-2008 Regular School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #7

Title
Excellence in Physical Education Award 2008

Discussion

Physical Education teachers, with the assistance of administration, were charged to produce a portfolio that would demonstrate a rigorous, descriptive process of the school's Physical Education program.  Portfolios were then reviewed and scored by a community-based team.  The Portfolio Review Team recommended Physical Education programs that met the criteria for a Site Visit.  Seven schools out of ten applicants were recommended for site visits.  The Site Visit Team, composed of out-of-county experts in the field of Physical Education, conducted a review of each school's portfolio, a visual evaluation of the program in action, a walk through of the site and equipment storage area, and interviews with the administration and Physical Education staff. At the conclusion, the Site Visit Team selected Apollo, Longleaf, and Mila Elementary schools to receive the 2008-2011 Excellence in Physical Education Award. Each school receiving the award will be recognized at the September 9, 2008, School Board Meeting.
