Agenda Item #24
Teaching American History Grant Award
Brevard Public Schools has been awarded by US Department of Education a three year Teaching American History grant for a total of $977,215. The grant will provide intensive professional development in American history to a cohort of 40 teachers for grades 4, 5, and 8. There is an option to extend the program for two more years for additional funding.
This is the second Teaching American History grant for the district and builds upon the first TAH grant (ended June 30, 2009) by focusing on elementary and middle school teachers. In addition, the grant has set a priority to assist teachers in the Title I schools needing improvement in order to improve student performance and address the requirements of the Differentiated Accountability plan.
The Board approved the writing and submission of the grant at the January 20, 2009 board meeting. The Abstract is attached. The full proposal is available for review in the Grant Development Office.
Grant will fund one (1) new full time position of project manager.
No match funds are required.
