Agenda Item #36
2009-2010 School Resource Officer Agreements
Annually the district contracts with nine law enforcement agencies to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) in all secondary schools and a significant number of elementary schools for the purpose of ensuring student and staff safety. This year due to budget reductions the elementary SROs will be reduced with the exception of one officer that will serve two elementary schools. The SRO program for high schools and middle schools will remain unaffected with one officer serving each site. The district will pay a unilateral reimbursement amount of $29,500 for each SRO during the 2009-2010 190 day contractual period.
Approve the School Resource Officer contracts that provide for a unilateral reimbursement cost of $29,500 per SRO for the 2009-10 school year with the following law enforcement agencies: Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Titusville, and West Melbourne Police Departments. A total of 29 SROs will serve 16 high schools and 12 middle schools and 2 elementary schools.
