Bayside High School Football Team Trip to South Carolina

The Bayside High School football team received an invitation from the Gridiron Challenge Foundation to travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for a tour of the University of South Carolina campus, and Duncan, South Carolina, for a football game against Byrnes High School.  This trip will expose the student athletes to a college campus outside of Florida, and give Bayside High national exposure at the football game.  The football game may be televised by ESPN.

Forty student athletes and twelve coaches plan to depart after school on Thursday, September 8, 2011.  They will travel by charter bus to Columbia, South Carolina, arriving at approximately 11:30 p.m.  The group will stay at the Holiday Inn in West Columbia.  On Friday, September 9, they will tour the campus of the University of South Carolina.  Following lunch, they will travel to Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina, for normal pregame activities and the football game.  After the game the team will travel home to Palm Bay, arriving about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10.  One day of school (Friday, September 9) will be missed.

Bayside High School will receive $9,000 from the Gridiron Challenge Foundation.  The estimated cost for the trip is $5,000.  This will give Bayside High School a $4,000 profit to use toward football costs for the remainder of the school year.  There will be no cost to the students or coaches.  There will be no cost to the District.

Approve the request for the Bayside High School football team to travel to South Carolina on September 8-10, 2011, to participate in a tour of the University of South Carolina campus and for a football game against Byrnes High School.
