Agenda Item #17
2010-2011 Even Start Continuation Application
The Even Start Program integrates early childhood, adult literacy, parenting education, interactive parent and child literacy activities into a single, unified family literacy program. Even Start is implemented in collaboration with community programs and in cooperation with the district's Student Parent Programs at Cocoa, Eau Gallie, Palm Bay and Titusville high schools.
Even Start funds are requested for salaries, fringe benefits, professional development, travel, transportation, field trips, furniture, equipment, maintenance and repair of equipment, printing, materials, supplies, AV materials, software, independent evaluator services and consultant services. It is anticipated that Brevard Public Schools will receive approximately $300,000 from the Even Start grant program. The district is still waiting for the release of the Even Start Continuation Application from the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). Approval of this item will authorize the Superintendent to sign the grant application once it becomes available from the FDOE. The timeline between release of the grant application and deadline for submission is anticipated to occur between board meeting dates.
A copy of this grant will be available in the Office of Early Childhood Education, Division of Curriculum and Instruction.
Approve the 2010-2011 grant application for the Even Start Family Literacy Program for a maximum of $300,000.
