Agenda Item #7
2010 - 2011 School Resource Officer Agreements
Annually the district contracts with nine law enforcement agencies to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) in all secondary and middle schools for the purpose of ensuring student and staff safety.
Approve the School Resource Officer contracts that provide for a unilateral reimbursement cost of $29,500 per SRO for the 2010-2011 school year with the following law enforcement agencies; Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Titusville, and West Melbourne Police Departments. A total of 28 SROs will serve 16 high schools and 12 middle schools.
Update: This agenda item is being presented to the Board for a second consent submission to ensure clarification of School Resource Officer Assignments and budgetary allocations. The information contained in the agenda item and attachment submitted for the June 15, 2010 agenda contracting for 28 SROs to serve 28 schools for a total cost of $826,000 was correct; however due to a clerical error the agenda item submitted for consent on July 20, 2010 was incorrect in that an elementary school resource officer (Cocoa Police Department to serve Endeavour/Cambridge) was included increasing the total cost of the item by $29,500. This current agenda item reflects the information contained in the June 15, 2010 agenda item and the attachment, and is correct.
Please note: The elementary school resource officer contract prepared for and provided to the City of Cocoa Police Department stipulates school resource officers for Cocoa High School and Clearlake Middle School and does not contain language for an elementary school resource officer.
