Information Related to Voter Referendum
The Official Ballot language below, related to a referendum for the November 4, 2014 ballot, was approved by the Board on June 26, 2014. The purpose of this agenda item is to request School Board approval of the Resolution related to the Sales Surtax referendum. Upon School Board approval, the official Resolution language will be sent to the Brevard County Commission. Note that the approved ballot language below has already been provided to the County.
As a point of information, the entire Resolution must be printed in the newspaper twice, once five (5) weeks in advance of November 4, and a second time three (3) weeks in advance of November 4. We estimate that it will take a 1/2 page each time at a total cost of $4,075.
Approved Ballot language:
Would you support the School Board levying a one-half cent surtax on sales in Brevard County, beginning 1/1/15, for a period of six years, to be used exclusively for critical school facility renewal projects, school security and technology upgrades? A needs-based prioritized list of projects has been published and expenditures will be monitored by an independent citizen oversight committee.

Approve the attached Resolution and authorize the Superintendent to forward it to the Brevard County Commission.
