2008 Annual Comprehensive Fire Safety, Casualty, and Sanitation Inspection Results

Discussion

The inspection and reporting was performed by District Environmental Specialist/Fire Safety Inspectors in conjunction with local/municipal fire authority inspectors.  The subject reporting meet the requirements set forth by the following Florida Administrative Codes:

Rule 6A-2.0010, Florida Administrative Code

All board-owned, lease-purchased, and leased, permanent buildings; relocatable buildings; auxiliary and ancillary facilities; related sites shall be inspected annually to assess compliance with minimum fire safety, casualty, and sanitation standards for existing facilities.  In addition to school board annual inspections, the local fire control authority shall inspect educational facilities within its fire control district.  All inspectors for fire safety shall inspect educational facilities using the Florida Fire Prevention Code and State Fire Marshal Rule 69A-58,FAC.

Local fire control authorities, certified by the Division of State Fire Marshal in accordance with Section 633.081, FS are required to inspect educational facilities within their fire control districts.  Reports shall be filed with the school board, the local site administrator, and the State Fire Marshal's Office.  A schedule for correction of each deficiency shall be adopted by the board.

Casualty and sanitation inspections shall be performed by person's proficient with applicable rules and standards.  The inspection report shall be approved the the board, which should forward one(1) copy of the completed inspection report to the person in charge of the facility and retain one(1) copy for its files. Fire safety inspection reports shall be forwarded to the State Fire Marshal's office in a manner described in Rule 69A-58, FAC.  Inspection  reports shall be available for public review.  The board shall maintain with each yearly inspection report a list of corrected deficiencies from the prior fiscal year report.

The Division of State Fire Marshal in consultation with the Department of Education adopted fire safety rules for the use by boards and local fire officials when conduction inspections of existing educational buildings (as well as new construction) to ensure the safety of occupants.

A copy of the District's 2008 Fire Safety Inspection Data was submitted to the State Fire Marshal's office on June 30, 2008 by this rule.

Based on the findings in this report, there will be capital dollars used to take corrective actions.

  



Recommendation

Accept the 2008 Comprehensive Fire Safety, Casualty, and Sanitation Inspection report for all Brevard Public Schools.  A paper copy of the *756* page report is available for review in the Board Secretary's Office.
