Agenda Item #15
Boys and Girls Clubs Mentoring Services
The Boys and Girls Clubs Mentoring program is funded from an annual allocation from CRHB 5100 Specific Appropriation 91 for the purpose of providing intensive tutoring and one-on-one mentoring to young readers who attend Mims and Sabal Elementary Schools. Brevard is eligible due to partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida. The tutoring and mentoring takes place at the Mims and Temple Terrace Boys and Girls Club sites in an after school setting. All students are eligible to participate but special focus is on at risk students who read in the lower 25% of FCAT scores. Curriculum and methods include the Power Hour tutoring program, computer aided instruction, one-on-one mentoring, Project Learn, Club Tech, Goals for Growth, and Money Matters. Additional benefits from this project include improving self-esteem, behavior, school attendance, personal goal setting, and financial literacy. Notice of the RFA was July 23 with a submission deadline on July 31, 2008. No matching funds or direct expenditures by the District are required.
