Christine Moore, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services,  provided the executive summary.

There was discussion about student disclosure on the student registration form and consequences for lying.

Ms. Belford mentioned that she was bothered that compulsory education begins at age six.  She believes there should be some discussion with the legislature about making it earlier.

There was substantial discussion surrounding this policy and the administration of medical marijuana.

8. Board Policy 5540 The School and Community Agencies

Minutes: 

Ms. Moore provided the executive summary of the proposed revisions.

Board members had conversation about The NEOLA option to include ICE in Section B.  Board members determined it was not needed.  There was also conversation about the principal's role when attempting to contact parents prior to an investigator questioning a student as well as being directed by the investigator not to contact.

Chief Operating Officer Robin Novelli provided Board members with the executive summary of the policy revisions.

Revisions:

  • Refer to correct statute in B(1)(e)
  • Add School in front of Board in A(2)
  • Add "Safety and" in front of Security in C(3)

Find out the method and frequency the Sheriff's office will be performing psychological evaluations and background checks on the safety specialists.

Minutes: 

General Counsel Envall brought a chart of surrounding county agencies and school district attorney pay schedules for Board review.

The Board determined it would be in the best interest of the District to hire an attorney to handle labor issues.  This addition will help lessen the costs spent on outside counsel. General Counsel Envall was tasked with moving forward with the process as quickly as possible.
