  • She recognized Nancy Howser, the district's gifted and advanced high school programs resource person. Ms. Howser held a fantastic day workshop for all of the gifted teachers and Ms. Descovich expressed excitement for the expansion of our gifted program.
  • She also wanted to recognized the Brevard Counselors Association group and acting president, Ms. Kim Anders.  Ms. Descovich along with Mr. Craig and Dr. Blackburn attended the group's monthly meeting and it seems they are building a strong team which she hopes other counselors will consider joining.
  • She also thanked Dr. Thedy and her team for pushing ahead on the district's  suicide awareness program.

John Craig

  • He echoed Ms. Descovich's comments on the guidance counselor meeting and said it was very enjoyable.  He heard great comments from the counselors about being able to actually be guidance counselors, however there is still much work to do toward that end goal.
  • He continued that the first day of school was awesome. He went to quite a few places; one of which was MILA Elementary.  Their campus is beautiful thanks in part to generous community partnerships.  MILA thanked Facilities Services for helping to repair the school's playground which had sustained storm damage.
  • He thanked Carolyn Glen from Florida Today for following Dr. Blackburn around during the first day and making sure we got some good coverage.
  • He thanked Georgianna Methodist Church for welcoming the new principal at Tropical Elementary and partnering with the school and purchasing an Istation Reading Program.  He said that is another way of showing how the community steps up to support the education of our students.
  • He thanked recently resigned Maggie Balado, head of Psychological Services, for all the work she has done for Brevard students.

Matt Susin

  • He expressed thanks to Stepanie Archer's office and some of the STEM people like Karrie Kupec, who facilitated the Cyber Patriot program, which is a collaboration between Northrup Grumman and the air force. He gave each school board member a pamphlet and a pin.  The program is no cost to the district.
  • He also thanked Dr. Blackburn for challenging all of the schools to get out into the community .  He went on to say that Jeremy Salmon from Eau Gallie High put on one of the best programs he had ever seen that included business partners, mayors, pastors from all of the churches and principals from Eau Gallie's feeder chain.  They met collaboratively to discuss what they could do  to make the environment of the schools better and enhance and encourage education.
  • He expressed gratitude to Stephanie Hall from Sabal who is working with Bay Meadows Trailer Park to create programs and mentorships.
  • He thanked Dave Lindemann and Dane Theodore of Facilities Services for sitting down with him to discuss capacity issues.

Andy Ziegler

  • He commented that there is a group that really needs to get some recognition for their efforts toward the first day of school; our police departments. He said they stepped up in a big way.
  • He also thanked and welcomed all of the SROs.

Misty Belford

  • She thanked everyone for helping make the start of school so successful.
  • She mentioned the partnership we have this year with the firefighters who went out to eight of our schools on the first day.
  • She said that any city vehicles that could be out on the first day of school in Titusville were out making sure things went smoothly. They were even there the second day.
  • She thanked the facilities team for everything they did over the summer.
  • She thanked Carolyn Glenn from Florida Today for correcting a reader's misunderstanding about the district.
  • She also thanked Dr. Thedy for the work she and her team to do help meet the needs of our families.

Desmond Blackburn

  • He said thank you to everyone who worked so hard over the summer to get school ready.
