08-25-2009 Special School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #6

Title
Proclaim September 2009 as Proud To Be An American Month

Discussion
September affords several opportunities to commemorate the ideals upon which our Nation was founded, such as Constitution Day and Celebrate Freedom Week.  Schools are encouraged to observe Patriot Day (September 11), Celebrate Freedom Week (September 21 through September 25), and the federally-required Constitution Day (September 17) during this month with student programs and activities.  During September, schools may emphasize the character traits of patriotism, trustworthiness, respect, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.
