Agenda Item #21
Contracted Services Agreement between Westside Elementary and Rachel's Challenge
The administration, teachers, parents, students, and members of the School Advisory Council at Westside Elementary School have recognized the need to improve the culture at Westside. The School Improvement Plan specifically addresses providing a safe environment for students along with providing character education. They have been searching for a way to truly instill in the students the values of kindness and compassion starting at a young age. Through the motivation of Rachel's Challenge, it is their goal to proactively model and exemplify to the students the positive message of igniting and sustaining a chain reaction of kindness.
Westside Elementary would like to kickoff Rachel's Challenge on September 11, 2009. The kickoff day package will include an ongoing connection to the staff of Rachel's Challenge, a professionally developed curriculum for the teachers and the accompanying elements, training for the staff, and two assemblies. The assemblies will be scheduled during the school day at which time all the students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to attend one of the assemblies. Training will take place during the day for some faculty and after school for others. Comp time will be approved for time used after contracted hours. Funding for the Rachel's Challenge program will come from the Westside child care profits.
This initiative of committing to the concepts of Rachel's Challenge relates directly to the new Florida Statute 1006.47 "Jeffery Johnson Stand Up for All Students Act" which prohibits bullying and/or harassment.
Approve the contracted services agreement between Westside Elementary and Rachel's Challenge to present the elementary school program to Westside students, faculty and staff on September 11, 2009.
